I am able to listen to "local" UK radio stations seamlessly through the Squeezebox. Being able to listen to British radio in my office in Maine has proved comforting over the years I have lived here, but the reception has been spotty at best. When I am working I am invariably slowing the machine down with various applications, removing the radio player enables me a faster operating speed whilst sacrificing no quality in my music. By using the Squeezebox instead of the browser, I am finding that my connection remains much more consistent, both for my music and for my work.

I have seen rumors of a community of programmers that are building third party apps, both free and with a nominal charge, so I'll be keeping an eye on that. Still I yearn for a Songza app to compare to. I also find less need to make customized stations, as the pre-set are so varied. I had grown less fond of Pandora recently but as the Squeezebox Pandora App allows me quick access to so many more choices, I am spending a lot more time surfing Pandora than ever before.

I am able to listen to my Pandora account and use the remote or touchscreen to thumbs up or down a song on my account. The Internet radio browser supports MP3, Ogg Vorbis, HE-AACv2 and WMA formatted streaming. I am able to listen to a broad variety of international radio with, knock on wood, no hiccups in several weeks of listening. With my Logitech Squeezebox I am finding many benefits: Without knowing exactly what I wanted to search for, I was having a hard time finding a decent selection. I occasionally listened to local radio online, but found the music players used by each station to be rather clunky. I used to listen to on-line radio stations from England, my home country, but they tended to be spotty and prone to cutting out. Prior to bringing in my Squeezebox, music at work was provided mostly by iTunes, Pandora, and more recently Songza. A part of the National Film Board of Canada’s ambitious multimedia project HIGHRISE, the documentary explores our upward growth by inviting viewers to dive down into vast reserves of additional content woven throughout the short docs, and accessible via simple keyboard commands and mouse grabs.

In verse, music, micro-games, and beautifully animated interactive imagery drawn from the Times's formidable photo archives (the fourth film in the series gathers its visual content from images submitted by the public), the project tells the story of how humanity's ubiquitous pillars of urbanization came to dominate the landscape, and what they say about a civilization's respect for its citizens. In partnership with The New York Times, this four-part digital documentary is designed to take advantage of modern web browsers. Telling the whole story of the highrise is a tall order (pun-intended), but documentarian Katerina Cizek has created an innovative solution with A Short History of the Highrise. The 2,500-year history of the highrise building is fraught with issues of race inequality and class division and these structures are becoming ever more relevant to peoples' lives as communities around the world continue to urbanize.
